Job: Merchants Bonding Company, West Des Moines

Awarded to: Concrete Supply

Description of Job: The complexity of this project started with the schedule and then developed in the field. This was a design/build delivery method and every decision was just-in-time delivery. The project was completed in only 10 months. An October start dictated over half the concrete placement in winter conditions. Macro fibers were utilized in all the interior floors. The owner envisioned an exposed gravel aggregate look with colored concrete in the patio area. Two different exposed gravel aggregate placements, one with color and one without, were used.

Job:  AEG Restoration Project, Des Moines

Awarded to: Concrete Supply

Description of Job: This project consisted of renovation to a building that was built in 1964. The interior and exterior walls consisted of exposed 2-inch granite aggregate. The company wanted to rejuvenate a planter area on the second story and turn it into a useful plaza for employees to use. This area first had to be leveled up and 75 cubic yards of 3/8-inch lightweight concrete with 3 pounds of Forta Ferro Fibers that feathered down to 1/2-inch were incorporated. 3’x6′ panels that surrounded to the plaza area were made to match the 51-year-old building. A 6.5 sack mix 80% coarse aggregate was used at a 2-inch slump and pounded the rock down. The panels were flipped and sand blasted cast side down for the aggregate to show. Spring beige color was added to the mi to account for the 51-year-old weathered look. Six panels were poured at a time then sand blasted cast side down. All panels turned out consistent, matching the company’s originally constructed building.
