Kurt Rasmussen

Chairman of the Board

Kurt Rasmussen is the fourth-generation to run Jensen Construction Company, a 100-year family business which was founded in 1912. Kurt grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and worked many different jobs in the family business during the summers while in school. Kurt graduated from Grand View College in 1988 and then began full time employment at the Rasmussen Group.

The Rasmussen Group had just been formed in 1988 as a management company for several businesses, including Jensen Construction Company. In 2003, Kurt became President of the Rasmussen Group, which currently is comprised of eight construction related companies: Argee Transport Company (heavy permit hauling), Central Iowa Trucking, Inc. (dump trucks), Central Iowa Ready-Mix, Inc. (ready-mix operations in the Des Moines and Omaha areas), Grimes Asphalt and Paving Corporation, Hallett Materials, Inc. (sand quarries in Houston, TX), Circle V Specialized, Inc. (heavy permit hauling), Jensen Construction Company (bridge construction), and Jensen Crane Services, Inc. (wind tower crane support).

In 2000, a Rasmussen Group Company, Hallett Materials, was sold to a publicly traded company, The Old Castle Group, a division of CRH. From 2000 to 2005, Kurt was employed by Old Castle as the President of the Midwest division. In this capacity, Kurt was involved with many mergers and acquisitions and publicly traded reporting requirements. In 2005, Kurt returned to the Rasmussen Group and worked to grow the company in the Midwest construction market.

On a philanthropic level, the Rasmussen Group established a Foundation which supports both local and state charitable causes. In addition, the Rasmussen Group companies have historically been connected to all the communities in which they operate as a good business partner, providing both financial support and in-kind donations to many local nonprofit organizations. Kurt has served for many years on the board of Anawim Housing, a non-profit organization dedicated to housing for low-income Iowans and the YMCA Camp, a non-profit helping to build strength in mind, body and spirit in today's youth. Kurt currently serves on the Museum of Danish America Board, the Church Council of Luther Memorial Church, and the Grand View University Board of Directors. Kurt was past Chairman of the Board for Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, and he is the Past President of the Associated General Contractors of Iowa.

Kurt lives in Johnston, Iowa with his wife, Lynette. They have three children; a daughter Sanna, who lives and works in Paris France; a son, Karl, who lives in San Diego at works at LPL Financial; and a daughter, Maren, who is a senior at Johnston High School.
